!New Agoras need to be additionally rooted in New Spaces (Arenas) and require new & old ways of Thinking & Embodiment and Sharing & Modelling.
!Arenas or Spaces defining new common frames of references, assumptions, and attitudes. New and combined arenas or spaces with extra scales and levels, sign systems, and models and participatory multi-perspective and option dialogues and agendas.

Helpful for any ambitious endeavour - like our topic in Team 1 - is to outline the tasks and issues we want to address. These topics and issues are not only multi-level and multi-scale, but also multi-sectorial, multi-medial, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural, - and stakeholders and observers form different sets or orchestras at different times. In this "Space" various forms of patterns, signs, frames, and modes are used in parallel! To realize and facilitate the challenge of advancing inter-scientific and inter-societal communication we close to certainly need to inspect, develop, integrate and apply various forms of presentations and representations (sign-systems), and inspect how we can include checks and balances to form new forms of sharing and solution-building.
What is needed seems to be an extra and shared rationality, some "new forms of pragmatics" maybe? As an example the General Model Theory (as introduced at UNESCO 1972 or in German: Gedanken zur Allgemeinen Theorie der Modelle 1965, later in 197* the Allgemeine Modelltheorie and his 5 Volumes Pragmatics (1986-95) all by Herbert Stachowiak.) and a revisit of the Sign Theory (C.S. Peirce), see Knowmap Article mentioned below, or Culture and Media Theory in an age of Cyberculture. See Cyberculture and New Ideas & Spaces, new interfaces and metaphors and the myth of book culture to the visions of the Information Age has to do with senses and dialogue. Beforehand I propose to consider some rough building sites or areas of challenge. One is "to share in a more tangible or solid format".
This means that we should strive towards communicating in an embodied, spacial, figurative, and metaphorical way by taking the words we use for real (considering their referent and context) and form models with different "fit" or "fideltity". For example using the word "map" as 2-dimensional, locational and extensional, the word "model" and "space" not as an "empty" universal "void", but primarily as 3-dimensional and embodied, and that the Spaces or Places we create, design or imagine, including their "boundaries" or "limits", can be jointly visited and negotiated anytime.
The author at this point in time has not the time to fill in much detail towards possible different signs sytems, schemas and their combination or relation, or the need for multi-modal conceptual architectures or scaffoldings. Another question is How we can Exercise New and Old Forms of Dialogue. we want to monitor trends towards a "knowledge based society" we should clearly outline the field of data, information, knowledge, values and wisdom. I feel my contribution could be to outline and propose some possible tools and approaches, ways to see, share and present as have been "evolving" - have "emerged" in some projects, exposed to certain problems to handle, present or communicate complex issues as I was exposed to over many years in such "multi-cultural and lingual", trans-disciplinary, new technologies, markets, and media local and international "environments" and projects. The definition of "new common frames of references" to share the extra "context" ... in virtual orientation or knowledge referencing or ordering spaces. Beside spaces or schemas for specialised and route or expert knowledge we define combined spaces for overview or orientation knowledge (see also switching systems). See analogue situation rooms or reference rooms like in library sciences - orientation and governance needs Overview: Coherence and Context, "Pan-" approaches across scales and domains/cultures.
Combination of different forms of representation (sign systems) to overcome "canyons" and bridge incompatible "worlds" or "turns" or "turfs". The author worked in some early integration projects for vector and raster data and looked into coded and non-coded representations in the field of harmonization of data, see articles: Harmonisation 1991, Acess and assimilation (repository article) 1992. This later led to proposals to "link" and relate sign-systems (signs according to C. S. Pierce symbol, icon and index) see spatial-spacial KnowMap. The idea is to also define places and spaces to which these signs can be referenced in order to bridge the canyon and do something like multi-lingual multi-cultural "navigation" - see below work with Veltman, MMI, like on Advanced Visual Interfaces and Knowledge Organization.
New forms of learning, communication (dialogue), and capacity building (peace making / mediation). We have last year explored old and new ways of learning and dialogue at the TUAC Conference. I will provide a synopsis, bring the contributions and will present alternative participative approaches. See for example the WORLD FUTURES article about a Dialogue and Decision Culture and some tests we exercised with the OPEN SPACE implemented in an on-line version for self-organised conferencing.
In an annex below we will collect more references and Literature and try to structure to which "action areas" these references might be useful.

Beside the contribution of the above first set "triggering" elements which definitely need testing and exploration during our sessions I feel I should try some short preliminary answers to the presented questions with the invitation.

What is the role of the New Agora project in addressing societies' problems? I see the New Agoras Project as a test-bed or incubator to allow in new (merged and morphed) "Spaces" new and old answers and approaches.
What would be the design of a "New Agora" that would serve as an evolutionary guidance system for improvement and peace of the world?
At this point I can only invite to re-visit the many weeks exercises to re-invent demorcracy or test other forms of dialogue like the School of Ignorancy or distributed or cyber - decision papers or exercises.
How could the "New Agoras" contribute to the conscious evolution of the human species? Maybe visit this contribution for the UNESCO CULTURE OF PEACE 1996 with System Science "people" and the ISSS COB event on Planetary Consiousness...
In what ways can the "New Agora" serve humanity through creating and sustaining a society based on knowledge? Many ways, see above or wait and see outcomes of our endeavours at Fuschl.
What can Information Technology do to support the collective learning and thus support Agoras? Computing and Programming is my world since 30 years, but this "world" expanded into multi-media, multi-modal visualisation, communication and modelling. A modern and humane and sustainable Information Society can help us to share extra dimensions, new realities and bridge different locations and times. It can and should support learning, expand our capabilities and support our imagination, not take over in a sense of providing "final" solutions we can not oversee or question.

The Agoras of the City States of the Classical Greeks were public spheres where true democracy was lived by citizens who made collective decisions about issues affecting their daily lives. Reconsidering the idea Agora in society today, and creating an ideal of the New Agora is a metaphor for social action contexts (public spheres or arenas) in which people can make collective decisions about their future. These contexts would be forums of democratic discourse. People in the settings of their families, neighbourhoods, community groups, organizations, and institutions have the potential to organize themselves as evolutionary design communities. These New Agoras could link up with each other and engage in evolutionary conversation in order to bring to life the Guided Evolution of the Society. The dual purposes of the New Agora project are to first create and sustain an Agora community of stewards who will then support the right of people to take part directly in the decisions that affect their lives and to guide their own destiny. The New Agora would guide the conscious evolution of civil society on local, national, and world levels. This goal will be achieved by creating knowledge bases for evolutionary inquiry; developing resources for evolutionary learning; and exploring approaches, methods, and technologies toward the establishment of New Agoras. These purposes are grounded in the belief that the right of people to take part directly in making decisions that affect their lives and to guide their own destiny is a fundamental human right.
